Use of adipose derived stem cells for cosmetic purposes: Cosmetic Stem Cells.
Adipose tissue contains CD34 cells. Are these CD34 cells regenerated in the subcuticular layer from the muscle? bone marrow? or the subcuticular layer itself? Does anyone dare to postulate?
Stem cells have been used conventionally for cancer and bone marrow transplants. Originally stem cells were first collected from the bone marrow. Interestingly, recent studies have shown there are adult stem cells located in other parts of the body like fat, skin, placenta and umbilical cord blood. These cells also exhibit similar pluripotent and regenerative potential. Even more interesting is the fact that adipose derived stem cells are showing the uncanny ability to regenerate areas for cosmesis reasons. Though only in its experimental stages, this technology could prove to be one of the most profound innovations for the field of cosmetic surgery yet. Hence, the derived phrase "cosmetic stem cell(s)" TM has been made to reflect this new field of research and clinical therapy.
